National Blondies Day: Sweet Success and Frosting Fumbles

Running a bakery means every day is an adventure in creativity, trial, and error. When I saw National Blondies Day pop up on the calendar, I knew I had to celebrate with a batch of these golden, buttery treats. Spoiler alert: the blondies were a total success. The cupcakes I decided to bake alongside them? Delicious, but they came with a side of frosting chaos.

Let’s talk about the blondies first because, honestly, they deserve their moment. Chewy, rich, and packed with flavor, these little squares of joy are everything I hoped they’d be. They didn’t need any fancy decorations to shine—they’re proof that sometimes, simple is best.

Now, the cupcakes... oh, the cupcakes. They baked up beautifully, all soft and fluffy, just waiting for a crown of frosting to complete them. But here's the thing: frosting is not my strong suit. I was so excited about adding a little extra milk to make it "just the right consistency" that I ended up with something closer to a glaze than the fluffy frosting I envisioned.

And decorating? Let’s just say that’s still a work in progress. My motor skills seem to have taken a backseat to my verbal skills, leaving me with cupcakes that looked more like a kindergarten art project than bakery masterpieces.

Despite the frosting and decorating drama, I’m calling this baking session a win. The blondies were golden perfection, the cupcakes were absolutely delicious (if not exactly Instagram-worthy), and I was reminded that baking is as much about the process as the final product.

Here at Beach Girl Bakery, it’s all about embracing the imperfections, laughing through the mistakes, and celebrating the small victories—like nailing National Blondies Day and making treats that taste as good as they make people feel.

If you’re ever in the mood for something sweet, gluten-free, and made with a whole lot of heart (and a touch of trial and error), you know where to find me.
